A red-gilled nudibranch enjoying its favorite food source, pink hydroids, off Peirce Island in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Nudibranchs are shell-less mollusks and part of the sea slug family.. Hydroids are a stinging plant-like animal related to jellyfish. Peirce Island is home to dozens of nudibranch species, particularly in the months of January through April.
