Storm Over The Slave Hut

A sobering reminder a slavery - a coral stone slave hut in Bonaire. Deceivingly large in images, when in actuality an average sized person couldn't stand straight up in one. The slaves had to work the salt pans in southern Bonaire, brutal work in harsh conditions, but lived near the town of Rincon - a 7 hour walk to the north. These small huts (as many as six slaves slept in one hut) were built by the West India Company so many of the slaves didn't need to make the daily trip.
