The Narrows

The Narrows is the narrowest section of Zion Canyon. The walls of the gorge are over 1000 ft and if a storm catches you unaware and a flash flood ensues, you won't be climbing them for safety.. Once you leave the end of the paved path, you can continue to hike (and wade at times) for at least another five miles upstream. This is a place I would love to return to during the late winter.

Stillness

This is at the beginning of a hiking trail in the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge in North Carolina's Outer Banks. I didn't see any alligators or bears (which is what I was hoping for...) but I saw beautiful landscapes and a lot of other wildlife. The weather was awesome because of the outskirts of Tropical Storm Bonnie - nice dramatic skies and constantly changing light....

I noticed this lone maple leaf on the rocks in the middle of a tiny stream on my way to Houston Brook Falls near Pleasant Ridge, Maine. I enjoyed my waterfall shots but the serenity of this scene was more captivating. Sometimes, it seems the journey leads to better images than the destination.
